Mitsubishi has revealed pricing for its returning Outlander PHEV as the Japanese manufacturer prepares to reenter the UK market after a five-year absence.

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will launch in May with a starting price of £46,995. It’s the first of two models planned for this year as Mitsubishi makes its comeback.

The family SUV will compete directly with the Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Rav4 and Ford Kuga in one of the market’s most crowded segments.

For the first time, buyers can choose a seven-seat configuration. This puts the Outlander PHEV against plug-in versions of the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008.

The seven-seat layout will actually be standard on the entry-level Native trim. The higher-spec Diamond grade comes as a five-seater only – an unusual approach that flips the typical SUV hierarchy.

Standard Equipment and Trim Levels

Mitsubishi hasn’t released full specification details yet, but the Native model includes several premium features as standard:

  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Powered tailgate
  • Head-up display
  • Keyless entry

The Diamond trim adds memory massage seats and a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system. Pricing for this higher grade hasn’t been announced.

Both versions use the same plug-in hybrid system. A 2.4-litre petrol engine works with two electric motors to provide permanent four-wheel drive capability.

Combined output reaches 304bhp. Seven selectable drive modes let drivers adjust the system for different conditions.

Range and Battery Performance

Mitsubishi claims the 2026 Outlander PHEV delivers more than 500 miles of total range. The 22.7kWh battery provides around 53 miles of electric-only driving.

That EV range matches rivals like the Tucson, Kuga and 5008 reasonably well. However, it falls short of what the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Rav4 or VW Tiguan can achieve on electric power alone.

The company’s UK operations clearly see potential in the returning model.

“The bigger, bolder and more advanced new model helps to broaden the model’s appeal for families with the new seven-seat variant, something we’ve not had available in the UK until now,” said Sharon Townsend, head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK.

She added that the original Outlander PHEV made a significant impact when plug-in hybrids were still new technology.

“The original Outlander PHEV stamped its mark on the UK market and led the way in the plug-in era. This new version is looking to build on its predecessor’s success.”

The timing puts Mitsubishi back in the UK just as government incentives for electric vehicles continue evolving. Company officials are betting that families want the flexibility of a plug-in hybrid over a fully electric SUV.

Full specification details and Diamond trim pricing should arrive in the coming weeks as the May launch approaches.
