Smart to Launch Model 3 Competitor With 436-Mile Range
Smart’s first sedan — the #6 — will arrive in late 2024, marking the brand’s entry into the premium electric sedan segment.
The new model targets Tesla Model 3 customers with class-leading aerodynamics and an estimated 436-mile range. It’s built on Geely’s SEA electric platform, shared with the upcoming Zeekr 007 and Polestar 4.
The #6’s platform supports both 400V and 800V charging systems — enabling charging speeds up to 400kW. Smart will offer two battery options:
• 75kWh LFP battery for rear-wheel drive models
• 100kWh NMC battery for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions
Power outputs start at 335bhp for the rear-wheel drive model, while the all-wheel drive version produces 597bhp.
A high-performance Brabus variant is in development, targeting 638bhp and 0-62mph acceleration under 3.5 seconds — making it the fastest Smart ever produced.
Mercedes-Benz’s design team, led by Smart design chief Kai Sieber, is handling the #6’s styling. While final designs remain under wraps, the sedan will share design elements with Smart’s existing lineup — including frameless doors and a sloping roofline.
The #6 will reach UK showrooms in early 2026, following its Chinese market debut. Sources indicate Smart may offer a plug-in hybrid version, though the company previously ruled out PHEV variants for its #5 SUV in European markets.
Smart’s expansion into larger vehicles reflects its transformation under Geely ownership, as the brand moves beyond its city car origins into premium electric vehicles.
