Abarth cuts 600e Scorpionissima price to £39,875 — a £2,100 reduction — to help buyers avoid the upcoming expensive car tax supplement.
Starting April 1, electric vehicles priced over £40,000 will incur an additional £410 annual tax for five years beginning in the second year of ownership. The total cost could reach £1,640.
“Recognising that our top-of-the-range Abarth 600e Scorpionissima would have attracted the Expensive Car Supplement coming in April, we’ve made the decision to reduce the price of the car and protect our customers from this tax rise,” said Giuseppe Cava, managing director of Abarth and Fiat UK.
The 600e Scorpionissima delivers 278bhp — making it Abarth’s most powerful car. It accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds, while the standard 237bhp model reaches the same speed in 6.24 seconds.
Both versions share key specifications:
- 254lb ft of torque
- 124mph top speed
- 207-mile range
The standard Abarth 600e remains priced at £36,975 — well below the £40,000 tax threshold. The model line will arrive in UK showrooms in March 2025.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) urges the government to reconsider the Expensive Car Supplement. Despite rising EV registrations, the industry body warns the additional tax could slow the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.
“Affordability remains a major barrier to uptake, hence the need for compelling measures to boost demand, and not just from manufacturers,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive. “The application, therefore, of the ‘Expensive Car Supplement’ to VED on electric vehicles is the wrong measure at the wrong time.”
Hawes added: “Rather than penalising EV buyers, we should be taking every step to encourage more drivers to make the switch, helping meet government, industry and societal climate change goals.”
