Chinese car maker Xpeng has unveiled a radical redesign of its P7 electric sports saloon, positioning it as an “answer to the AI era in form and function.”

The high-performance five-seater is expected to compete with the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, Polestar 4, and Hyundai Ioniq 6 when it launches.

“The original P7 was a milestone for Xpeng and a turning point in China’s EV landscape,” said lead exterior designer Rafik Ferrag. “With this new generation, we set out to design a pure electric sports sedan that could amaze at every angle. This car is our dream – refined through countless iterations. In my eyes, the all-new Xpeng P7 is a work of art, shaped with emotion and purpose.”

The new P7 features a streamlined body with clean lines. Slimline vertical headlights emerge from a black body line extending from the windscreen, while a pronounced air splitter projects from the shark nose front. The rear sports equally slim tail lights and what appears to be an active rear spoiler beneath a sweeping rear window.

While Xpeng hasn’t released full technical specifications, the current P7 uses 800V architecture with a two-motor all-wheel-drive setup that accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds.

The existing model’s 86.2kWh battery delivers up to 570km of range in the two-wheel-drive variant. The new generation will likely match or exceed these figures.

Xpeng describes the new P7 as a “major” technological upgrade over its predecessor. The company promises a combination of “AI-powered luxury, cutting-edge Turing Smart Driving, and an immersive smart cockpit” – suggesting advanced connectivity features, voice interaction, and enhanced driver assistance systems.

More information will be released in coming months before the P7 launches in China later this year.

There’s no confirmation yet on UK or European availability. Xpeng has only recently introduced the G6 to the UK market, with just the X9 MPV and G9 SUV currently planned for release in right-hand-drive markets.
