Alpine CEO Philippe Krief confirmed the next-generation A110 EV will deliver more than 500 horsepower and nearly 400-mile range while maintaining the compact footprint that defines the current model.
Speaking to UK media at the A390 SUV unveiling, the former Ferrari engineering chief revealed technical details about the all-electric sports car that’ll compete directly with the Porsche Cayman.
The rear-mounted, dual-motor setup will produce "a lot" of power, Krief said. When pressed for specifics, he confirmed output exceeding 500 horsepower.
"There will be enough power, I guarantee."
Alpine’s exploring in-wheel motor technology similar to the Renault 5 Turbo 3E concept – a setup that could reduce weight while maximizing performance. The CEO also hinted at a three-motor, all-wheel-drive variant alongside multiple power configurations.
Range and Weight Targets
The two-door coupe will achieve 600 kilometers of range – roughly 373 miles – while weighing just 1.45 tonnes.
That’s where Alpine’s lightweight philosophy gets tested.
Krief said the brand will use "very high energy density" battery cells but won’t adopt solid-state technology. Unlike most EVs, the batteries won’t sit under the floor because that’d make the car too tall.
Instead, they’ll mount behind the driver where the current A110’s engine lives.
“That is just on the battery side. In terms of motors, you are optimising and integrating all the functions – the motors or transmission, inverter, DC-to-DC charger, everything in one box. Then in terms of vehicle integration, you fight for every millimetre you can to reduce every kilo on each single part. I’m not saying that it’s easy.”
The electric A110 will launch the Alpine Performance Platform (APP) – the foundation for four upcoming models. Krief believes electrification will actually enhance the current A110’s engaging character.
"If you give a car a sense of the benefit of electricity – quickness in steering, quickness in responding, quickness in braking and quickness in recovering from understeer – then you have the feeling your car is light," he explained.
Electric powertrains respond 10 times faster than internal combustion engines.
Paris Debut Planned
Krief wouldn’t discuss pricing but confirmed a near-production prototype will appear at the 2026 Paris Motor Show.
The CEO remains confident in Alpine’s electric strategy even as competitors like Lotus slow their EV plans.
"We are not selling electric cars. We are selling sporty cars, passionate cars, exclusive cars – that are electric," Krief said.
"And we don’t think that we are going to suffer in the electric market, especially on the APP cars. We think that they will win for us."
He acknowledged the brand’s prepared for regulatory changes and confirmed an ICE version of the new A110 remains technically possible.
The A110 EV joins Alpine’s "Dream Garage" alongside the A290 hot hatch and A390 SUV. By 2030, Alpine plans seven new models including a hybrid hypercar producing more than 1,000 horsepower.
