The Alpine A290 electric hot hatch debuted in the UK at London’s O2 during the F1 75 Live launch event, with Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly behind the wheel.
Alpine offers the A290 in four standard trim levels. The GT and GT Premium deliver 174bhp and 210lb ft of torque, while the GT Performance and GTS models produce 217bhp and 221lb ft.
A special ‘Premiere Edition’ matches the higher-powered variants’ output. Alpine will build 1,955 units — commemorating the year Jean Redele founded the company.
The A290 shares its platform with the Renault 5, and both vehicles earned European Car of the Year honors in 2025.
The A290’s performance upgrades set it apart from its Renault sibling:
- Sport-tuned chassis
- Multilink rear suspension
- Hydraulic bump stops
- Brembo brake calipers
- Michelin Pilot Sport tyres
F1 influence extends to the A290’s ‘Feel at One’ cockpit, featuring an F1-style steering wheel and an overtake button providing 10-second power boosts.
“I felt right at home in the A290, because it brings a little bit of the flavour of F1 to the roads, with details like its F1-inspired overtake button and regenerative braking force dial on the steering wheel,” said Gasly. “F1 is a magical sport, and this is a road car that brings some of that magic to everyday driving. It’s small, fast and fun – the first true hot hatch for the electric age.”
The 52kWh battery charges from 15-80% in 30 minutes across all variants. Range varies by power output — 236 miles WLTP for the 174bhp version and 226 miles for the 217bhp models.
UK pricing starts at £33,500 OTR. Alpine offers 2.9% APR representative PCP financing, with GT models available from £345 monthly with a £5,054 customer deposit based on 6,000 annual miles.
