Alpine has unveiled its A290 Rallye as the brand’s first all-electric competition car, featuring a limited slip differential and hydraulic handbrake for serious racing.

The French manufacturer will showcase the electric hot hatch at this weekend’s Rallye Rouergue Rodez Aveyron Occitanie before its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 10.

Alpine developed the A290 Rallye to meet current rally regulations. The car’s designed for multiple types of events – from single-series racing to open competition.

Customer orders are already open at €59,990, excluding VAT.

The competition car uses the same front-mounted motor as the road-going GTS version, producing 217 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Alpine’s Viry-Châtillon engineering team added a ZF limited slip differential for improved traction, requiring updates to both the gearbox and electronic management systems.

Racing-Focused Modifications

Engineers completely reworked the chassis with running gear adapted by Alpine Racing. The setup includes custom suspension with ALP Racing Suspension shock absorbers.

Braking performance gets a significant boost through six-piston monoblock calipers and 350mm discs up front. The rear uses a single-piston setup with 280mm discs.

The standard ABS system has been replaced with race-specific control.

A proper hydraulic handbrake completes the performance package – essential for rally stages where quick direction changes matter most.

Custom 8×18-inch EVO Corse wheels come fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport A tires. Safety equipment includes an FIA-approved roll cage and Sablet bucket seats.

Alpine also developed a new external sound generator specifically for this rally-spec model.

Electric Competition Gateway

The company positions the A290 Rallye as a “gateway” to electric competition. Alpine plans to showcase the car’s potential in a single-rally challenge in France later this year.

The manufacturer will provide an Alpine-themed paddock with specific recharging infrastructure and high-level technical support. Specific prizes for top crews will be announced soon.

The car makes its first competitive appearance later this year.

Beyond Alpine’s own events, customers can enter their A290 Rallye independently in various competitions.

After Goodwood, Alpine will take the A290 Rallye to the Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine in early September.

The electric rally car represents Alpine’s commitment to electrified motorsport while maintaining the brand’s performance heritage. With customer deliveries starting soon, the A290 Rallye could help establish electric vehicles in grassroots rally competition.
