Alpine’s upcoming all-electric A390 crossover has been spotted winter testing in northern Sweden, with the French performance car maker releasing images ahead of its May 27 launch.
The production version of this Porsche Macan Electric rival shows several changes from the A390_B concept that debuted at the 2024 Paris Motor Show.
Testing in Lapland reveals a vehicle that rides higher than the concept shown in Paris. However, it maintains key design elements including the prominent coast-to-coast light bar, distinctive “cosmic dust” triangular lighting, and an aerodynamic fin running the length of the body — a feature inspired by Alpine’s WEC prototype.
The test car’s rear end appears more subdued than the concept, featuring a thinner light bar and less aggressive diffuser.
Unlike the four-seat concept, the production A390 will accommodate five passengers.
Alpine confirmed the A390 will be built on the Renault Group’s dedicated Ampr Medium EV platform — the same architecture used in the award-winning Renault Scenic E-Tech. The crossover will measure 4.62m long, 1.53m tall, and 1.89m wide.
While the spy shots reveal little about the interior, Alpine has shared some details. The A390 will feature a Nappa leather steering wheel with a flat center section inspired by the company’s Formula 1 car. The wheel includes three F1-inspired buttons labeled OV (Overtake), RCH (Recharge), and Drive.
Lapland’s slippery conditions provided the perfect testing ground for the A390’s stability and torque vectoring systems.
When combined with its tri-motor powertrain, Alpine claims the torque vectoring will give the A390 handling characteristics similar to its lightweight A110 sports car. The vehicle’s “snowflake” pattern wheels will illuminate blue when the torque vectoring system is active.
The A390 represents the second vehicle in Alpine’s Dream Garage lineup, following the Renault 5-derived A290 hot hatch launched earlier this year.
Alpine hasn’t released specifications for range, battery capacity, or power output. Industry reports suggest the A390 will be priced under £100,000.
