Arnold Clark has announced it’s partnering with Moba to offer battery health checks for electric vehicle customers as part of routine servicing.
The UK’s largest independent car retailer will provide comprehensive testing on fully electric and plug-in hybrid batteries. Unlike other dealers who only offer checks when selling used EVs, Arnold Clark customers can request testing at any point during their vehicle’s ownership.
Battery condition has become a critical factor in EV resale values.
Drivers increasingly want proof their high-voltage pack maintains good health before selling or trading their electric car. The checks can also catch potential problems – like faulty cells – before they turn into expensive repairs.
Scott Grant, Arnold Clark’s aftersales director, said the service addresses a gap in standard manufacturer maintenance programs.
“We have been actively promoting the benefits of EVs for several years and now Arnold Clark can offer battery health certificates as a valuable new addition to its aftersales offering,” Grant said.
Most automaker service schedules don’t include routine battery testing.
The new checks will be available during scheduled maintenance visits. Grant explained the timing gives customers flexibility to monitor their battery’s condition throughout ownership rather than waiting until sale time.
“As EV technology evolves, more data becomes available, Moba’s solution captures and presents that data in a way that adds real value for both our customers and our business,” he added.
Battery Testing Shows Strong Performance
Companies like Moba and Generational test the high-voltage battery packs in electric vehicles to measure how much usable capacity they’ve lost over time. The systems can spot internal issues before they cause major failures.
Recent data from Generational shows UK electric vehicles perform better than many owners expect.
The average used EV retains 95% of its usable capacity. Even vehicles aged eight to nine years maintain an average battery health of 85% – well above the typical 70% warranty threshold.
These results suggest EV batteries degrade more slowly than early predictions indicated. Most manufacturers warrant their batteries against dropping below 70% capacity for eight years or longer.
Alex Johns, Moba’s UK business development partner, said the Arnold Clark partnership expands access to testing services.
“Moba is delighted to partner with Arnold Clark. Their extensive network will help us drive our mission to support the wider adoption of electric vehicles and promote the long-term health of their batteries,” Johns said.
Arnold Clark operates more than 200 locations across the UK, giving Moba access to thousands of potential customers who might not otherwise seek battery testing.
The partnership reflects growing recognition that battery health documentation will become standard practice as the used EV market matures.
