Arnold Clark’s in-house charging network has become Scotland’s largest ultra-rapid provider just one year after launching, according to company officials.
The Arnold Clark Charge service now operates more than 50 hubs across Scotland. Each location sits at one of the retail giant’s dealerships and offers up to 12 ultra-rapid charging points.
These Scottish sites form part of a broader UK-wide network created through a £30 million investment programme.
The company currently operates more than 240 charging devices nationwide. Plans call for doubling that number in coming years, providing charging access at more than 100 locations across the UK.
Arnold Clark Charge earned recognition in late 2025 as Zapmap’s “Up and Coming” network through its driver satisfaction survey.
EV drivers rated the network highly across all five criteria – reliability, ease of use, customer support, value for money and ease of payment.
Network Opens to All Drivers
The charging network originally served only Arnold Clark customers but now welcomes any EV driver.
The service lets drivers pre-book charging sessions through an app or simply arrive and charge. Arnold Clark also offers some of the country’s cheapest ultra-rapid charging at 55p per kWh – well below many competitors’ rates.
Pablo Levi, group sustainability manager at the Glasgow-based retailer, emphasized the company’s charging goals.
“With Arnold Clark Charge, our aim is to give drivers quick, reliable and affordable charging wherever they travel.”
He highlighted the rapid expansion milestone.
“Becoming Scotland’s largest ultra-rapid network in such a short time is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of – and we’re only just getting started.”
Levi said the company will continue expanding into key locations while listening to customer feedback.
UK Charging Growth Accelerates
Arnold Clark’s network expansion contributes to the UK’s growing public charging infrastructure.
Full-year 2025 figures show the country’s charging network grew 20% overall. Ultra-rapid devices saw much faster growth at 41% – reflecting increased demand for faster charging speeds.
The latest Zapmap data reveals that 2,872 ultra-rapid chargers were installed in 2025. That represents one in five of all new charging devices added during the year.
This growth pattern shows how retailers like Arnold Clark are reshaping the charging landscape by combining retail locations with high-speed charging infrastructure.
