Arnold Clark has installed six ultra-fast chargers at its BYD dealership on Scotswood Road in Newcastle. The new charging hub marks another step in the dealer network’s nationwide expansion of EV infrastructure.
The chargers deliver speeds up to 150kW and remain open to all electric vehicle drivers – not just BYD owners.
Arnold Clark offers one of the UK’s most competitive ultra-rapid charging rates at the Newcastle site. Drivers pay just 55p per kWh, well below the national average of 76p per kWh.
The installation supports Arnold Clark’s broader strategy to help motorists transition from petrol and diesel vehicles. The company’s charging network now spans 50 locations across the UK.
Convenient Payment and Amenities
Customers can pay through multiple methods including the Arnold Clark app, roaming partner networks, or contactless payment directly at charging points.
The adjacent BYD showroom offers complimentary coffee while vehicles charge.
Arnold Clark’s customer-focused approach recently earned recognition at the 2025 Zapmap Awards. The company won the ‘Up-and-Coming Rapid/Ultra-rapid EV Charging Network’ title for its rapid expansion and service quality.
The opening of our new ultra-rapid chargers in Newcastle is another important step in expanding Arnold Clark Charge across the UK.
Pablo Levi, Arnold Clark’s sustainability manager, emphasized the company’s commitment to accessible charging infrastructure.
We want to make electric vehicle charging as simple, affordable and accessible as possible, whether customers are travelling locally or on longer journeys.
BYD’s Ultra-Fast Charging Plans
The Newcastle announcement aligns with BYD’s ambitious charging technology rollout in the UK. The Chinese automaker plans to introduce its revolutionary 1000kW flash charging system later this year.
Bono Ge, BYD UK’s country director, confirmed the ultra-rapid charging technology will launch alongside the company’s premium Denza brand toward the end of 2026.
The 1000kW system can deliver up to one megawatt of power. It’s designed specifically for BYD’s Super-E platform vehicles equipped with 10C battery technology.
The charging speeds translate to practical benefits for drivers – adding 1.2 miles of range per second of charging. That means 250 miles of range in just five minutes.
BYD revealed these details during the recent Sealion 5 launch event.
