Car dealership network Arnold Clark launched its own electric car discount program to complement the government’s recently introduced vehicle grant scheme.

The major retailer’s initiative targets used EVs and charging infrastructure – areas not covered by the official government program that focuses on new vehicle purchases.

From now through November 3, customers can claim a £750 discount on any used electric vehicle from Arnold Clark. Alternatively, buyers can apply that same savings toward home charging equipment when purchasing a used EV from the retailer.

Russell Borrie, Arnold Clark’s CEO, said the company doubled its EV inventory to support the promotion.

“To enhance this already amazing deal further, we’ve doubled our EV stock, giving customers an incredible range of electric vehicles to choose from,” Borrie said.

The timing aligns with growing manufacturer participation in the government Electric Car Grant program, which provides discounts on qualifying new EVs.

Public Charging Network Expansion

Arnold Clark recently opened its charging network to all drivers – not just customers. The system includes more than 240 chargers across 50+ dealer locations throughout the UK.

Previously, the network required advance booking through the company’s mobile app.

Now drivers can charge immediately without reservations and pay using standard debit or credit cards. The system also accepts payment through various roaming services without requiring the Arnold Clark app.

The network charges 55p per kWh for its 150kW ultra-rapid chargers – positioning it among the UK’s most affordable high-speed charging options.

“New and existing EV drivers will, of course, be supported by Arnold Clark Charge, our UK-wide EV charging network,” Borrie said. “These developments all cement our position as industry leaders when it comes to supporting EV infrastructure.”

Arnold Clark operates as the UK’s largest independent car retailer, with the charging network representing its first major infrastructure investment beyond traditional vehicle sales and service operations.
