Battery diagnostic specialist Aviloo has launched the industry’s first independent warranty for used electric vehicle batteries.

The warranty pays out £2,700 if a customer’s battery drops below its guaranteed performance level within a year. It’s designed to give buyers more confidence when purchasing secondhand EVs.

Aviloo issues the warranty separately from its existing battery health certificates. The company uses its own testing systems to check and verify each battery’s condition.

How the Warranty Works

Each covered vehicle gets tested to establish a minimum state of health (SoH) threshold. This threshold accounts for one year and 20,000km of typical use.

During the warranty period, buyers can request a SoH check using Aviloo’s Flash test. If the battery’s health has fallen below the set threshold, they receive the cash payout plus a refund on the test cost.

The Flash test measures actual battery capacity, thermal management systems, and charging performance against the original factory specs.

The test covers 96% of EV models currently on the road.

Market Impact

According to Aviloo, the warranty lets dealers provide better value and peace of mind to customers. It also gives drivers more confidence in their purchase decisions.

Marcus Berger, CEO of Aviloo, said: “The Aviloo battery warranty raises the used electric vehicle market to a new level.”

“For the first time in the UK, we are providing the foundation for a warranty based solely on objective, independent measurement data. This builds trust and gives British dealers and buyers a level of certainty that simply has not existed before.”

Berger highlighted the UK’s position in the European market.

“The UK has one of Europe’s most dynamic used EV markets, and we see enormous appetite from both dealers and consumers to get this right. The warranty ensures that used EVs are seen not as a risk, but as a sustainable, trustworthy choice.”

The product launched in France and Sweden in June. It’s now rolling out across the UK and several other European countries this July.
