Be.EV is investing £4 million to transform a long-abandoned petrol station into an EV charging hub and community center in Manchester.
The Failsworth site, which has sat unused for 15 years, will become a “Charging Oasis” along Manchester’s Northern Gateway commuter route.
Workers have already removed old fuel tanks and completed decontamination of the area.
The completed facility will feature 12 ultra-rapid 300kW chargers that can add up to 325 miles of range in just 20 minutes. Four waiting bays will accommodate drivers during busy periods, while a Caffe Nero Express will serve both EV users and local residents.
Located on a key route between Manchester and Oldham, the hub is expected to serve more than 26,000 daily commuters.
This project represents one of the first conversions of a former filling station into an EV charging hub – establishing what Be.EV calls a blueprint for future regeneration efforts.
“Be.EV are on a mission to improve community access to EV charging and with the Manchester Charging Oasis we are putting our money where our mouth is,” said Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV.
Ghafoor added that the site will become “a key transport feature of the community – a thriving hub buzzing with activity.”
“By breathing new life into this space, we’re not just revitalising the area – we’re paving the way for cleaner, greener streets,” he said. “Every EV driver who charges here will be playing a part in purifying the air we all breathe. We’re incredibly proud to be at the heart of Failsworth’s transformation.”
