Bentley has unveiled the EXP 15 concept car, offering the first glimpse into the luxury automaker’s electric future. The concept showcases new design approaches that will influence the brand’s upcoming EV lineup.
The EXP 15 draws inspiration from Bentley’s 1930 ‘Blue Train’ Speed Six. It features an all-electric, all-wheel-drive powertrain that will eventually replace the company’s V8 and W12 engines.
While not intended for production, the concept provides hints about future models. Bentley’s first production EV will debut in 2026 and compete directly with Rolls-Royce’s expanding electric vehicle range.
Design Philosophy
Design Director Robin Page explained the concept sits between a Mulsanne limousine and Bentayga SUV. The team used it to explore different customer preferences in a changing market.
“The beauty of a concept car is not just to position our new design language, but to test where the market’s going. It’s clear that SUVs are a growing segment and we understand the GT market – through four generations of the Continental GT – but the trickiest segment is the sedan because it’s changing.”
The EXP 15 combines elements from both worlds – raised ride height with a sloped fastback roofline.
At the front, slim vertical LED lights frame a redesigned version of Bentley’s upright grille. Page confirmed the grille will remain in future EVs as illuminated “digital art” rather than for engine cooling.
The concept maintains Bentley’s signature long hood but houses two luggage compartments beneath piano-hinged covers. These draw inspiration from the engine access design on the 1930 Bentley Gurney Nutting coupe.
Radical Interior Layout
The EXP 15 features a unique three-door, three-seat configuration inspired by the Blue Train car.
The driver’s side has a single door. The passenger side gets a standard front door plus a rear-hinged back door.
A single passenger seat slides almost the full cabin length and swivels for easier entry and exit. The “Concertina Floor Storage” system lets footrests fold into the floor – creating space for pet carriers or luggage.
Technology and Materials
The dashboard follows Bentley’s wing-shaped design language while combining digital and physical elements. Materials include wood, metal, silk and wool from Royal Family suppliers.
Page noted customer preferences: “We think people are going to get fed up with a fully digital experience and are pining for physical mechanical elements too.”
The concept features knurled physical controls alongside a digital dashboard display. The screen can switch off to reveal wood veneer underneath.
A central clock-like device called the ‘Mechanical Marvel’ uses movable, illuminated indicators. It shows travel direction, battery charge state and other key data.
Performance Specifications
Bentley hasn’t released detailed powertrain specifications beyond confirming all-wheel-drive electric capability. This suggests a dual-motor setup with likely over 500 horsepower given Bentley’s performance focus.
The company promises “long range and recharging speeds commensurate with the convenience customers have come to expect.”
Expected specifications include a battery exceeding 100kWh, range beyond 300 miles, and charging speeds around 300kW or higher.
The EXP 15 represents Bentley’s transition strategy from combustion engines to electric powertrains while maintaining the brand’s luxury positioning and performance credentials.
