Renault Group’s three newest electric cars – the Renault 4, Renault 5, and Alpine A290 – now qualify for the UK government’s full £3,750 Electric Car Grant. All three models feature 52kWh battery packs.

The grant requires automakers to meet the government’s Science-Based Target Initiative and environmental standards for vehicle and battery production emissions.

The Electric Car Grant operates in two tiers. Band one vehicles receive £3,750 off the purchase price, while band two cars get £1,500 off. Renault already qualified for band one status earlier this year but now meets the top threshold thanks to its Douai EV factory where these batteries are manufactured.

Renault 5 Pricing

All Renault 5 models with the ‘+’ designation qualify for the full grant – these versions come with the 52kWh battery instead of the smaller 40kWh unit.

The entry-level techno+ trim drops from £27,695 to £23,945. The iconic five+ range-topper is now £25,945 with the grant applied.

The limited-edition Roland Garros+ model, inspired by the tennis tournament, gets a new price tag of £26,945.

Each R5+ delivers up to 250 miles on a single charge. All R5+ models receive trim upgrades – techno+ versions get a contrasting black roof, while iconic five+ and Roland Garros+ models include a Harman Kardon sound system.

Renault 4 Crossover Gets Major Price Cut

The evolution+ trim sees the biggest reduction – from £27,195 down to £23,445.

The mid-range techno+ now costs £25,495 with the grant. The flagship techno+ drops from just under £30,000 to £25,945.

The Renault 4’s 52kWh battery provides 247 miles of range.

Adam Wood, Renault UK managing director, emphasized the company’s commitment to making EVs more accessible.

“Renault is committed to democratising car ownership. With the Renault 5, Renault 4, and soon the new Twingo, we are expanding the appeal of electric cars to more people, offering great design and competitive technology at highly accessible prices.”

Wood added that the company’s focus on environmental responsibility and European battery manufacturing earned recognition through the top-tier grant eligibility.

“Since the grant was introduced we have seen momentum build in the market, and this decision will further boost the UK’s rising EV sales even further,” he said.

Alpine A290 Sports Version Also Benefits

The performance-focused Alpine A290 receives the same £3,750 discount across its range.

The base GT+ model drops from £33,995 to £30,245. The GT Performance+ falls from £36,495 to £32,745. The top GTS+ trim is reduced from £37,995 to £34,245.

Nicola Burnside, Alpine UK chief, called the grant eligibility “fantastic news” that will accelerate interest in the award-winning A290.

“We’ve moved quickly to ensure that customers can take advantage of the saving and place orders for the updated ‘+’ range from the moment the £3,750 Electric Car Grant has been confirmed by the Government, with deliveries set to begin early next year.”

The A290 also gains two UK-specific option packages. The Tricolore Design pack adds a blue steering wheel center with Alpine logo and French tricolor exterior accents. The Signature Tricolor package includes:

  • Intelligent cruise control
  • Hands-free parking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Reverse parking assistance

Orders for all updated ‘+’ models are available now through Renault and Alpine dealers, with deliveries beginning in early 2026.
