BMW announced summer 2025 updates for its all-electric i4 lineup that deliver longer range for base models and a power boost that surpasses the M4 CS for the flagship variant.
The i4 eDrive35 and i4 eDrive40 now feature silicon carbide inverters that reduce energy consumption by 4.5%. This efficiency improvement extends the single-motor eDrive35’s range to 319 miles. The eDrive40 can now travel 380 miles on a single charge.
The range-topping i4 M60 xDrive produces 592bhp – a significant jump from the previous 537bhp i4 M40 it replaces.
That’s 50bhp more than BMW’s track-focused M4 CS. The M60 accelerates from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds, though the added performance reduces its range to 269 miles.
Pricing and Positioning
The i4 M60 xDrive starts at £70,910 – roughly £50,000 less than the hardcore M4 CS despite producing more power. The eDrive35 begins at £51,280, while the eDrive40 is priced from £59,375.
BMW sold 12,953 i4s in the UK during 2024, making it the brand’s best-selling electric vehicle.
Extended Warranty Coverage
BMW’s introducing an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty for all new and used electric vehicles purchased from April 1. The coverage includes free repairs for any battery capacity loss below 70%.
This warranty applies across BMW’s electric lineup, not just the updated i4 models.
Flagship Model Updates
The i7 saloon now includes laminated safety glass as standard equipment. Summer 2025 will bring optional comfort glazing, sun protection glazing, and a Heat Comfort package for the luxury sedan.
BMW’s iX SUV gains an optional Frozen Pure Grey metallic paint option. The iX received earlier updates this year that extended its range to 426 miles and boosted the M70 xDrive variant’s output to 650bhp.
The silicon carbide inverter technology represents BMW’s latest effort to improve efficiency across its electric range without requiring larger battery packs.
