BMW has upgraded the i5 electric vehicle lineup, increasing range and adding features across both saloon and Touring models built from March 2025.

The i5 saloon now travels up to 375 miles on a single charge — a 29-mile improvement. The Touring estate version reaches 363 miles, with both models benefiting from enhanced energy efficiency.

These gains come from two key technical improvements: new silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics and lower rolling resistance tyres. The changes boost efficiency by 8% in the saloon and 9% in the estate models.

BMW is adding standard features across all 5 Series variants, including:

  • Ambient lighting with BMW Interaction Bar
  • Lumbar support for front seats
  • Harman Kardon HiFi sound system

The i5 M60 — BMW’s performance-focused electric variant — now includes the M Sport package Pro as standard equipment.

The company’s plug-in hybrid vehicles are receiving charging upgrades too. The X1, 2 Series Active Tourer, 7 Series and XM plug-in models will now support 11kW AC charging, up from 7kW. While this won’t affect most home charging setups, it enables faster charging at public AC charging stations.

These improvements are part of BMW’s broader model year updates across its vehicle range.
