bp pulse and motorway services operator Moto announced plans to build megawatt charging sites for electric trucks at three major UK motorway locations.

The companies will start with Lymm Services on the M6 and both Toddington North and Toddington South services on the M1. Each site gets six pull-through bays that work with CCS and MCS charging standards.

The first location opens in 2026.

By 2030, the partnership aims to complete 300 bp pulse charging bays across 23 Moto locations nationwide. The megawatt charging sites deliver ultra-fast charging at scale – designed to meet growing demand from electric truck fleets.

Amazon already added 140 all-electric eActros 600 trucks to its fleet in 2025. The championship-winning Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team used the same truck model to transport race cars to the British and Dutch Grands Prix.

The charging locations support bp’s goal of building publicly accessible multi-energy truck hubs across Trans-European Transport Network routes. These hubs combine ultra-fast charging infrastructure with Moto’s amenities – the company has invested heavily in EV infrastructure across its 70 UK sites.

Strategic Network Expansion

Moto’s expansion targets 300 charging bays for electric HGVs at 23 locations by 2030.

Ken McMeikan, Moto’s CEO, said the partnership represents a major step forward.

“I am really excited about our plans with bp to provide electric charging stations for heavy goods vehicles. At Moto, we’re committed to leading the way in enabling the UK’s electric mobility. By partnering with bp pulse, we are delivering the infrastructure and innovation electric fleets need, making our vision for long-haul electrification more practical and accessible.”

Jo Hayward, bp’s mobility and convenience vice president, emphasized the customer focus behind the initiative.

“We’re committed to helping fleet operators transition to EV trucks and that means delivering the infrastructure they need where they need it. Our partnership with Moto is a perfect fit: the team shares our focus on making electric truck charging as convenient as possible for our customers, and providing them with a brilliant experience.”

The hubs will support electric trucks traveling from continental Europe into the UK. bp’s fuel and charge card enables seamless payment across both domestic and international locations.

European Integration

bp opened its first dedicated European e-truck route in 2023 across six sites in Germany. The 600-kilometer corridor spans from Rotterdam in the Netherlands to Genoa in Italy along the Alpine Corridor.

Nigel Head, vice president of bp pulse’s European e-truck operations, sees the UK expansion as a natural progression.

“This is a natural next step in our ambition to support fleets as they transition to electric trucks. We’ve proven in Germany that this model works, and now we’re applying that same expertise to the UK. Moto’s locations offer an ideal foundation, with strong motorway access and a customer base that will serve both UK and European freight operators.”

The integrated network aims to serve both UK domestic fleets and European freight operators using British motorways. Fleet managers get reduced downtime, lower emissions, and clearer paths to electric truck adoption.
