BYD has launched the Atto 3 Evo, a redesigned version of its family SUV with more power, longer range and faster charging capabilities.

The Chinese automaker completely overhauled its original Atto 3 – which became BYD’s first UK offering in 2023. This marks the first midlife refresh for any BYD model in the British market.

Battery and Charging Upgrades

The Atto 3 Evo gets a larger 74.8kWh battery pack – up from the previous 60.5kWh capacity. BYD also switched from 400V to 800V architecture for the powertrain system.

Range increases to 317 miles on the most efficient version. That’s 57 miles more than the original model.

The 800V setup – shared with BYD’s larger Sealion 7 – enables faster DC charging at up to 220kW. The previous model maxed out at 150kW. Charging from 10% to 80% now takes 25 minutes.

Performance Changes

BYD scrapped the front-mounted 201bhp motor setup entirely. The Atto 3 Evo offers rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations instead.

The entry-level rear-drive version produces 309bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds – nearly two seconds quicker than before.

An all-wheel-drive variant delivers 443bhp with 0-62mph acceleration in just 3.9 seconds. This version offers 292 miles of range.

Design Updates

Visual changes include new front and rear bumpers, slimmer side skirts, and a high-level spoiler. BYD fitted new 18-inch alloy wheel designs across the range.

Inside, the drive selector moved to the steering column. There’s an 8.8-inch digital instrument display replacing the previous setup.

Boot space increased to 490 litres – 50 litres more storage than before. BYD added a 101-litre frunk under the bonnet.

Standard Equipment

All Atto 3 Evo versions include:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • 360-degree surround-view camera
  • Vehicle-to-Load capability
  • Heat pump
  • Electrically adjustable heated front seats

The AWD version adds a head-up display, heated rear seats and panoramic roof alongside the performance upgrades.

BYD hasn’t confirmed UK pricing yet. The current Atto 3 starts at £37,730 – expect a slight increase when deliveries begin this spring.
