BYD emerged as the UK’s fastest-growing automotive brand in 2024, reporting a 658% increase in passenger vehicle sales over 2023.
The Chinese manufacturer delivered 8,700 vehicles to UK customers last year. Its Atto 3 SUV — BYD’s first UK model — maintained its position as the brand’s top seller, driven largely by fleet purchases. The compact Dolphin hatchback proved most popular among retail buyers.
BYD UK expanded its dealer network from 14 to 60 locations throughout 2024, with additional expansion planned for 2025.
“In the past two years, BYD has gone from strength to strength and I’m immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of our team and retailers,” said Steve Beattie, BYD UK’s sales and marketing director. “BYD aims to bring high-tech and high-value cars to UK customers, and it’s fantastic to see more people choosing BYD.”
The company’s market share grew from 0.17% to 0.96% between January and December 2024. Public brand awareness jumped from 1% to 31% — a surge BYD attributes to its Euro 2024 football tournament sponsorship.
BYD broadened its UK lineup in 2024 by introducing the Seal U DMi plug-in hybrid alongside its three electric models. The manufacturer will soon launch its Sealion 7 — an electric performance SUV capable of 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.
The brand’s current electric vehicle range includes:
- Atto 3 SUV
- Dolphin hatchback
- Seal sedan
