BYD has partnered with Electric Vehicle UK to fight false information about electric cars and help British drivers switch from petrol and diesel vehicles. The collaboration targets the UK’s 2029 Zero Emission Vehicle mandate – which requires 80% of new car sales and 30% of used car sales to be electric.

EVUK works as an industry-to-consumer organization that challenges myths about electric vehicles while campaigning to remove barriers preventing motorists from making the switch.

The group organizes test drives for people skeptical about EVs. It also lobbies policymakers to improve electric vehicle accessibility and pushes media outlets to report accurately on electric cars.

BYD, now the world’s largest EV manufacturer, has joined EVUK’s mission to promote electric motoring benefits. The Chinese company will support the organization across public, industry and media activities.

“We’re delighted to be joining EVUK to fully support its mission to increase consumer awareness of electric vehicles,” said BYD UK country manager, Bono Ge.

“Together we aim to explain the various benefits of owning an electric car – from a smoother, quieter drive, responsive performance and reduced running costs – by providing accurate information to the public.”

Ge emphasized the partnership’s broader environmental goals.

“In doing this, we’ll move closer to our ultimate goals of achieving global climate targets and improving air quality.”

Tanya Sinclair, EVUK’s CEO, welcomed the partnership as a boost to the organization’s credibility and reach.

“I am delighted to welcome BYD as a partner of EVUK. They are innovators in EV technology and are among the global manufacturers moving away from fossil-fuelled vehicles, and accelerating the UK’s transition to an all-electric future.”

She noted BYD’s support strengthens EVUK’s ability to provide clear information that builds confidence in electric vehicles.

BYD’s Market Position

BYD has achieved significant milestones in the global EV market. In May last year, the company outsold Tesla in Europe for the first time.

The following month, BYD became the first carmaker to manufacture 13 million electric vehicles – a production milestone that underscores its rapid growth in the sector.

Globally in 2025, BYD sold 2.25 million pure electric vehicles, outpacing Tesla’s 1.64 million deliveries. This performance cemented the company’s position as the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer by volume.
