Changan plans to enter the UK market with the Deepal S07, marking another Chinese brand’s expansion into British territory. The company joins a growing list of manufacturers targeting the family SUV segment.
The Deepal S07 positions itself as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y alongside established models like the Skoda Enyaq, Ford Explorer and Renault Scenic.
Starting at £39,990, the S07 arrives in September with a single powertrain configuration. The setup features a 215bhp rear-mounted motor paired with an 80kWh battery pack.
Changan claims the S07 can accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and deliver up to 295 miles of range on a single charge.
DC charging specifications remain unconfirmed, though the company states a 48-minute wait for 10-80% charging – suggesting peak speeds below 100kW.
Equipment and Features
The S07 comes with extensive standard equipment to match other Chinese Model Y rivals. The specification includes a heat pump for efficient climate control, heated and ventilated seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Technology features center around a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with wireless Apple and Android mirroring capabilities. Additional tech includes a head-up display, 360-degree camera system, and a 14-speaker audio system.
Company Background
While the Changan name may be unfamiliar to UK buyers, it’s one of China’s largest and oldest manufacturers. The company has operated in its home market for 40 years and maintains partnerships with international brands including Ford and Mazda.
Changan produces vehicles under three main brands – Changan, Deepal and Avatr – alongside its manufacturing partnerships.
To support the September launch, Changan has announced partnerships with five major retail chains to establish 20 dealer locations. The company plans to open an additional 30 sites by the end of 2025.
Nic Thomas, UK managing director, outlined the company’s ambitions:
“The UK is a primary market for Changan, which is why we’re making such a bold commitment. We’re not just launching a new car, but a fully capable ecosystem to support it, along with future models we will bring to the UK.”
“This is just the beginning of our growth story in the UK,” Thomas added.
