The London Borough of Harrow’s adding 500 new on-street charge points through a partnership with char.gy, targeting drivers without home charging access.
The charge points will be fitted to lamp columns, offering speeds from 7kW to 22kW. Char.gy’s already installed 225 units.
The remaining 275 chargers go live by October 8, 2026.
Pricing Structure
Drivers pay 59p per kilowatt hour during daytime hours – that’s 7am to midnight under char.gy’s Day Tariff. The Night Saver Tariff drops to 39p/kWh for overnight charging.
Both accept Apple Pay and Google Pay payments.
From 2023 to 2026, char.gy earned recognition as the UK’s most affordable public charging network.
Industry Response
“We’re delighted to be expanding our network in Harrow with 500 new charge points,” said char.gy CEO John Lewis.
He emphasized the practical benefits for everyday drivers.
“This expansion will make a real difference for everyday drivers: people who live without a driveway, those switching to electric for the first time, and anyone who wants reliable, affordable charging close to home.”
Lewis highlighted how local charging infrastructure builds driver confidence in electric vehicle adoption.
“Providing local charging that people can depend on gives drivers confidence to switch to electric, and that’s what this rollout is all about.”
Council Backing
Councillor David Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, described the expansion as “a big step forward for residents who drive electric and for anyone thinking about making the switch.”
He pointed to reduced search times and increased daily convenience for drivers.
“More on-street charging means less time searching for a plug and more confidence for drivers every day. Charging is easy, affordable and flexible, with clear pricing and cheaper overnight rates – perfect for topping up while you sleep.”
The 500 new chargers supplement Harrow’s existing 100 on-street charging points. Government funding supports the expansion, including financing through the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).
This brings Harrow’s total on-street charging infrastructure to 600 points once the rollout completes in 2026.
