Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge has been crowned the UK’s most EV-friendly football stadium according to new research from car retailer Cinch.

As the Premier League season gets underway, the study analyzed charging infrastructure around all top-flight grounds to identify which stadiums offer the best charging options for fans driving electric cars.

Stamford Bridge’s central London location gives it a major advantage. The ground has 1,012 charging points within a two-mile radius.

That’s enough capacity to provide 90,000 miles of charging during a typical 90-minute match, according to Cinch’s calculations.

London Clubs Dominate Rankings

Fulham’s Craven Cottage takes second place with 825 nearby chargers. The west London club actually beats Chelsea in one key area – rapid charging access.

Fulham has 97 high-speed chargers (50kW or above) within two miles. That’s 12% of their total charging infrastructure.

Chelsea has 91 rapid chargers nearby, representing just 9% of their total capacity.

Brentford rounds out the top three with 618 charging points. Arsenal sits fourth with 602 devices, while West Ham completes the top five at 485 chargers.

London’s charging infrastructure dominance shows clearly in the results. Seven of the top 10 most EV-friendly stadiums are located in or around the capital.

The remaining three spots go to Sunderland and Manchester’s two clubs – United and City.

Rapid Charging Leaders

While Chelsea leads overall, other clubs excel in specific areas. Manchester United ranks second for rapid charging access with 92 high-speed devices.

That represents half of all chargers within two miles of Old Trafford.

Newcastle posted the highest proportion of rapid chargers despite ranking eighth overall. A total of 63% of charging points near St James’ Park offer 50kW speeds or higher.

“It’s great to see the areas around Premier League stadiums having so many EV chargers ahead of the new season,” said Ben Welham, motoring expert at Cinch.

“The top 10 is quite London-centric for now, but with public charging infrastructure improving across the country we expect to see a more balanced picture in the years to come.”

Growing Infrastructure Network

The research highlights how charging infrastructure continues expanding across the UK. Rapid chargers prove especially valuable for fans wanting to top up quickly before heading home after matches.

London’s early advantage reflects the capital’s dense urban environment and established charging network. But infrastructure development in other regions should level the playing field over time.

The study comes after similar research by Vauxhall identified the UK’s most EV-friendly family attractions. Legoland Windsor claimed that top spot, showing how charging access is becoming a key factor across entertainment venues.

For now, Chelsea fans can claim bragging rights over their London rivals. With over 1,000 charging points nearby, getting to and from Stamford Bridge in an electric car shouldn’t pose any range anxiety issues.
