Citroen has unveiled a surf-inspired special edition of its Ami Buggy quadricycle, marking the latest collaboration with fashion brand Rip Curl.
The Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision transforms Citroen’s tiny electric vehicle into a beach-ready transport solution for surfers. The concept draws inspiration from Rip Curl’s surfing heritage and targets adventurers focused on escape and leisure activities.
Citroen designed the special edition to provide emissions-free transport for surfers while addressing their practical needs.
The company is showcasing the Ami Buggy Rip Curl at the international finals of the Rip Curl GromSearch contest in Hossegor, France, from November 4 to 8. The vehicle meets surfers’ requirements for easy mobility, gear transport and comfortable changing facilities.
Design Features and Surfboard Storage
The special edition features purple and white two-tone paint with white stickers on the rear quarter window and wheel arches. White detailing surrounds the headlights.
A roof spoiler and roof-mounted LED lightbar serve double duty as surfboard mounts. Surfers can also use a door-mounted carrier for their boards or hang a waterproof storage bag from the tubular doors.
The vehicle includes an onboard shower and changing mat for post-surf cleanup.
Inside, floor mats made from recycled wetsuits provide waterproof protection and easy cleaning. The passenger side features a fold-out waterproof storage bin, while a banana pouch attaches to the steering wheel for post-surf nutrition.
Off-road tires allow the Ami Buggy to traverse sand to reach surf spots.
Executive Comments on Partnership
“Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision embodies the free spirit and creativity that unite the two brands. With this concept, we are reaffirming our commitment to making electric mobility accessible, starting with micro-mobility, accessible from the age of 14 and geared towards leisure,”
said Xavier Chardon, Citroen CEO.
Mathieu Lefin, Rip Curl’s European president, emphasized the sustainability angle:
“We are proud to be collaborating on the Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision concept car, designing it to be the dream car for young surfers. This project allows us to highlight our recycling processes for used wetsuits, emphasising the shared commitment of our two brands to sustainability and innovation in the service of freedom and adventure.”
Continuing Partnership
Citroen and Rip Curl first partnered in 2016 on a C4 Cactus special edition. They’ve since launched variants of the C4 Picasso, SpaceTourer, C3 Aircross and Berlingo.
While the Rip Curl Vision remains a concept vehicle, Citroen describes it as opening a new chapter in their ongoing partnership with the surf brand.
