The 2CV Shop has partnered with Italian coachbuilders Caselani to bring back the iconic Citroen Type H panel van as an electric vehicle. The collaboration transforms the classic corrugated metal design into a modern EV using the all-electric Citroen Relay as its foundation.
The partnership works across borders – Caselani builds the body in Italy, then ships it to the UK where The 2CV Shop completes the conversion under license from Citroen.
Modern Tech Meets Vintage Design
The original Type H ran from 1947 to 1981 with basic controls and minimal features. The 2025 version keeps the distinctive corrugated bodywork but adds modern touches throughout.
Inside, drivers get an HD touchscreen, climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay. Cruise control comes as an optional feature.
The company calls it “A Icon Reborn” – and the electric Type H maintains serious commercial capability. It can carry payloads up to 1,385kg with load volumes reaching 17m³.
Range and Charging Specs
The 110kWh battery delivers 260 miles of range on a full charge. Fast-charging capability reaches 150kW for quick top-ups during commercial use.
Pricing starts at £52,995 plus VAT for the electric cab model. The panel van version costs £63,495 plus VAT.
Current Citroen Relay owners can retrofit their vans starting at £24,595.
The Type H isn’t The 2CV Shop’s only retro project. They also build the Citroen G based on the Dispatch platform and the Fourgonette using Berlingo underpinnings.
Growing Restomod Trend
The electric Type H joins a broader movement of electrified restomods. The 2CV Shop also creates all-electric versions of the classic 2CV, the Citroen Méhari, and the 2CV van.
Major manufacturers have noticed this trend too. Skoda, Opel, and Jaguar have all reinterpreted classic models as modern EVs, blending nostalgia with zero-emission technology.
The Type H EV represents how specialist companies can breathe new life into beloved designs while meeting today’s environmental and technological expectations.
