Colin Furze will co-host the upcoming series of Zapheap alongside Robert Llewellyn, according to Fully Charged Show officials.

The YouTube engineer and inventor joins Llewellyn for the electric vehicle-focused revival of Scrapheap Challenge.

Zapheap represents a modern take on the original format – teams building functional machines from scrap materials, but with an EV twist. The Fully Charged Show developed the concept as part of their expanding content offerings.

Richard Morgan from Electric Classic Cars and Anne Kloppenberg from New Electric will lead competing teams. Each team gets 10 hours to engineer scrap material into working electric-powered machines.

The pilot episode begins filming this July.

Live Workshop Coverage

Imogen Boghal and Jack Scarlett will provide real-time updates from the teams’ workshop locations. The Fully Charged presenters will document the build process as it unfolds.

Teams will work in top-secret workshop facilities during the competition timeframe.

Once completed, both electric vehicles face testing in front of a live audience at the Everything Electric Expo. The event runs Saturday October 11 through Sunday October 12.

“We are over the moon to welcome Colin Furze as co-host of Zapheap,” Llewellyn said. “His extensive experience and boundless enthusiasm as an engineer, inventor, and presenter make him the perfect person to help bring this inspirational gameshow to life – for both a new generation and those who remember and loved the original.”

Llewellyn founded Fully Charged Show and hosted the original Scrapheap Challenge series.

Childhood Inspiration

Furze’s connection to the format runs deep – the original show influenced his engineering career path.

“Scrapheap Challenge was a massive part of my childhood, it’s one of the things that inspired me to start building in the first place,” Furze explained. “I hope Zapheap sparks a whole new wave of makers to pick up tools and get inventing.”

The YouTube creator has previously appeared as a keynote speaker at Everything Electric events in London. His background combines practical engineering skills with content creation experience.

Llewellyn announced plans for the EV-focused revival earlier in 2025. The format shift reflects the growing emphasis on electric vehicle technology and sustainable engineering solutions.

Both hosts bring experience bridging technical content with mainstream audiences – essential for translating complex EV concepts into engaging television.
