Denza will launch its Z9GT in Europe next month, marking the premium brand’s continental debut alongside BYD’s revolutionary 1,500kW Flash charging network.
The performance-focused division of BYD plans to introduce three models across Europe and the UK this year. The company’s also spearheading the group’s ultra-rapid DC charging rollout.
High-Performance Shooting Brake Takes Aim at German Rivals
The Z9GT serves as Denza’s opening move – a high-performance shooting brake featuring European design influences.
The model’s positioned to compete directly with the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and the upcoming Mercedes-AMG 4-Door.
Denza’s offering the Z9GT in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations when it launches in the coming weeks. The rear-wheel-drive variant delivers up to 497 miles of range from its 122kW battery pack.
The all-wheel-drive model ups the ante significantly. It uses a tri-motor setup producing more than 947bhp and achieves 0-62mph acceleration in under three seconds.
Revolutionary Flash Charging Network Debuts Alongside Z9GT
BYD’s Flash charging service launches simultaneously with the Denza rollout. The group’s already deployed thousands of these charging units across China and plans an extensive European expansion this year.
The UK alone will receive 300 Flash charging units.
Working with the Z9GT’s Blade Battery 2.0 technology, the system operates at up to 1,500kW. This delivers a 60% charge in just five minutes – matching the time it takes to refuel a petrol car.
Denza’s promoting the Z9GT’s charging capabilities with its ‘Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3’ slogan.
At peak performance, the system charges the battery from 10%-70% in five minutes. It reaches 10%-97% in nine minutes and manages 20%-97% in 12 minutes even at -30°C temperatures.
There’s one important limitation. Denza confirms its charging stations deliver the full 1,500kW output when using Chinese-market connectors. The company hasn’t clarified what power levels European customers can expect with standard CCS2 plugs.
“The introduction of the Denza Z9GT in Europe marks a very important milestone for our brand,” said Stella Li, BYD executive vice president.
“It’s the perfect choice as we start our global rollout of Flash charging in Europe. The ability to add hundreds of kilometres of range in just minutes, even in extremely low temperatures, means the Z9GT perfectly reflects our vision for technology that inspires, performance that excites and elegance that defines the future of premium mobility.”
The Z9GT’s European launch represents BYD’s most ambitious push into premium EV territory outside China. The company’s betting that ultra-fast charging combined with high-performance credentials can carve out market share against established German luxury brands.
