Marketcheck, a used car market analysis firm, reports that the East Midlands offers the cheapest used electric vehicles in the UK. The region’s pre-owned EVs average £21,213 according to new data released by the company.
Greater London buyers face the highest prices at £24,514 for equivalent vehicles.
The North East ranks second cheapest at £21,224, with Wales third at £22,054. The South West and Yorkshire and Humber complete the top five most affordable regions at £23,164 and £22,572 respectively.
The data reveals that second-hand EV prices are converging across the country. In June 2023, buyers in the North West paid the highest prices nationally – averaging £32,260 for used electric cars. Scotland offered the lowest prices at £25,666.
The price gap has shrunk dramatically from £6,954 two years ago to just £3,301 today.
East Midlands Sees Biggest Price Drop
Beyond offering the lowest prices, the East Midlands experienced the steepest price decline nationwide in 2025. Used EV costs dropped 18.69% from £26,088 in January to current levels.
Greater London stands as the only UK region where prices increased this year.
London’s average used EV price started 2025 at £22,600 and rose 8.47% to reach £24,514.
“Our latest data reveals significant regional shifts in the used EV market, with the East Midlands emerging as the most affordable place to buy a used electric vehicle,” said Alastair Campbell of Marketcheck UK. “At just over £21,000, it’s well below the national average – and a full £3,300 cheaper than in Greater London, where prices have actually risen this year.”
Campbell highlighted the market’s evolution toward price stability across regions.
“What’s particularly striking is the narrowing of the price gap across the UK. Just two years ago, regional differences were far more pronounced, but we’re now seeing a more level playing field emerge. This points to growing maturity in the used EV market and broader nationwide adoption.”
The convergence suggests the used electric vehicle market is reaching maturity as adoption spreads throughout the country.
