EDF has partnered with Drive Electric to offer up to 5,000 miles of free charging credit to electric vehicle lease customers who sign up for the company’s GoElectric tariff.

The energy provider is targeting both new and existing Drive Electric customers who lease an EV and commit to the specialized tariff between now and November 1.

The promotion translates to a £130 account credit that covers roughly eight months of free driving for the average motorist. EDF calculates this figure using GoElectric’s off-peak charging rates.

Tariff Structure and Savings

GoElectric operates as the country’s cheapest fixed EV tariff. The plan includes five hours of off-peak charging daily between 12am and 5am – saving customers £316 compared to standard variable rates.

Drivers of compatible models can unlock additional savings of up to £251 through EDF’s Smart Charging add-on service.

The Smart Charging feature automatically schedules vehicle charging when electricity costs hit their lowest points. It also prioritizes periods when the grid runs on cleaner energy sources.

Rich Hughes, director of retail at EDF, emphasized the comprehensive nature of the offering.

“We know that lower driving costs are a major attraction for most drivers when switching to electric driving, so we’re pleased, at EDF, to be able to offer customers the full solution,” Hughes said.

Government Grant Timing

Hughes noted the promotion’s timing coincides with expanded government grant eligibility for EVs.

“At a time when more EVs are becoming eligible for government grants, we’re offering 5,000 free miles up front, along with a comprehensive package that covers leasing, charging, and energy savings,” he said.

The company recently earned a five-star TrustPilot rating for customer service.

Credit and Installation Details

EDF will apply the £130 credit to customer accounts within 60 days of their GoElectric tariff activation. The offer runs through November 1, 2025 for qualifying Drive Electric lease agreements signed after August 12.

Customers can also bundle home charging equipment costs into their monthly energy bills.

The package includes purchase and installation of a Pod Point Solo 3S charger, allowing drivers to spread upfront charging infrastructure costs over time rather than paying a lump sum.
