Peugeot revealed the first production images of its electric E-208 GTi ahead of its official debut at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans on Friday, June 12. The unveiling comes exactly one year after the concept’s introduction at the same event.
The timing coincides with Peugeot’s centenary at Le Mans. Team officials say the production model stays true to the original concept’s design and performance targets.
Performance and Engineering
Peugeot Sport co-developed the E-208 GTi using the same platform as the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce. The shared architecture allows for significant performance upgrades over the standard E-208.
The electric hot hatch produces 276 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque from a single front-mounted motor. That’s double the output of the legendary 205 GTi it’s meant to replace.
Acceleration from 0-62 mph takes just 5.7 seconds – 0.2 seconds quicker than the larger Abarth 600e.
Those numbers put it ahead of competitors like the Alpine A290 and Mini John Cooper Works. Peugeot’s engineers focused on making the E-208 GTi the quickest in its class.
The performance package includes a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential and upgraded rear anti-roll bar. Peugeot also fitted bespoke suspension, steering, and braking components throughout.
Four-piston brake calipers grip 355mm discs up front. The E-208 GTi sits 30mm lower than the standard model, with the track widened by 56mm at the front and 27mm at the rear for better handling.
Battery and Range
The E-208 GTi uses the same 54kWh battery pack as the standard car. Peugeot rates the GTi at 217 miles of range despite the increased power output.
Real-world driving will likely deliver closer to 160-170 miles between charges. The extra performance and wider tires reduce efficiency compared to the base model.
Design and Styling
Peugeot’s design team aimed for subtle sportiness that builds on the standard E-208’s sharp looks. The approach avoids the oversized spoilers and bold graphics found on some rivals.
The GTi gets an aggressive body kit with a deeper front grille flanked by “claw mark” LED accents. Flared wheel arches accommodate the widened track and larger tires.
At the rear, a high-level spoiler balances with a low-key black diffuser.
New 18-inch alloy wheels feature oversized GTi lettering that references the Speedline design from the original 205 GTi. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires provide maximum grip.
Neon Red highlights appear on the wheel arches, grille, and spoiler area – echoing the red lettering from original GTi badges. The red theme continues inside with bright floor mats matching the 205’s style, plus red dashboard trim and seatbelts.
Sports seats combine leather and Alcantara materials. The rear panel mixes Alcantara with a mesh section that references the 205’s fabric upholstery patterns.
Launch Details
Peugeot will announce E-208 GTi pricing on Friday during the Le Mans debut. Based on the standard car’s £30,000 starting price, the GTi should land under the £40,000 mark.
The French automaker plans to showcase the car in three launch colors: red, white, and blue as a tribute to the French flag and Peugeot’s racing heritage.
