Jeep has unveiled its Recon EV, marking the brand’s first electric vehicle to earn its coveted “trail rated” approval for serious off-road capability.

The electric SUV will replace the Wrangler in Europe and the UK when it arrives in late 2026. Emissions regulations are forcing out the gas-powered Wrangler, but Jeep says the Recon will deliver the same rugged performance without any emissions.

Power and Performance

The Recon packs a twin-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces 641 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. That power translates to a 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.7 seconds on pavement.

But this isn’t just about straight-line speed.

Jeep built the Recon with an electronic locking rear differential and reinforced suspension components. The Select-Terrain traction management system includes specific modes for snow and sand, plus a sport setting for on-road driving.

The 100kWh battery pack delivers up to 250 miles of range under EPA testing standards. That should translate to more than 300 miles on European WLTP tests, though Jeep hasn’t released official European figures yet.

Built for the Trail

Earning trail-rated status means the Recon passed Jeep’s demanding off-road tests. The company reinforced the steering and drivetrain components specifically for harsh conditions.

Robust underbody protection shields the battery from rocks and debris during trail runs.

The Recon keeps classic Jeep design elements – that boxy shape and the famous seven-slot grille. But now the grille lights up, and the vehicle features flush-fit door handles and full LED lighting throughout.

“The 2026 Jeep Recon is a bold step forward for the brand, an all-electric SUV that stays true to our core values of freedom, adventure and capability,” said Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf. “With the Jeep Recon, we’re proving that electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road excellence, it can elevate it.”

Open-Air Experience

Following Wrangler tradition, the Recon comes with removable doors, roof panel, and rear glass. Jeep mounted the speakers under the seats so passengers can still hear their music even with the doors off.

The cabin blends modern technology with durable materials designed for outdoor adventures. A 14.5-inch touchscreen handles most functions, while physical switches control the off-road systems.

Jeep included practical touches like bungee-strap door pockets and a modular accessory rail in the dashboard. The rail can mount cameras, GPS units, or even rubber duck holders – a popular Jeep community tradition.

US and Canadian buyers will get access to the Moab specification, which includes 33-inch tires, a dedicated Rock driving mode, and a tan “Joshua Tree” interior. This version won’t be available in other markets.

Timeline and Availability

The Recon goes on sale in North America early next year. The global rollout, including UK availability, starts in the fourth quarter of 2026.

When it arrives, the Recon will join Jeep’s growing electric lineup alongside the Avenger, Compass, and Wagoneer S.

The Recon represents Jeep’s bet that electric power can actually enhance off-road performance through instant torque delivery and precise control – while maintaining the open-air freedom the brand is known for.
