Volvo announced its European electric vehicle lineup will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network across 29 countries starting this fall. The move affects over 20,000 charging stations throughout Europe.

Tesla’s Supercharger network is widely recognized as the most reliable public charging infrastructure available. The stations offer charging speeds up to 350kW and operate with plug-and-charge simplicity – drivers just connect the cable and charging begins automatically.

Compatible Models

Six Volvo models will work with European Superchargers: the EX30 crossover, EX40 and EX40 variants, the new EX60, the full-sized EX90 SUV, and the ES90 sedan.

These vehicles already connect to Tesla’s network in the United States through the Volvo mobile app.

Alejandro Castro Perez, Volvo’s energy chief, said the partnership aims to simplify EV ownership while creating a more unified charging experience.

“Volvo drivers already have access to over three million charging points globally through the Volvo app. Adding Tesla Superchargers in Europe means they now have even easier access to one of the most recognised fast charging networks.”

The Swedish automaker views Supercharger compatibility as part of its broader electrification strategy.

“As we accelerate towards full electrification, our goal is to make charging simple and effortless, through a seamless ecosystem,” Castro Perez added.

Advanced Charging Capabilities

Volvo’s newest model, the EX60, runs on the company’s latest 800V SPA3 platform. This architecture supports charging speeds up to 400kW – significantly faster than Tesla’s current Supercharger maximum.

The EX60 can add 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes when connected to compatible ultra-fast chargers.

Range figures are impressive across Volvo’s electric lineup. The EX60 delivers up to 503 miles on a single charge, making it Europe’s longest-range production EV currently available.

The ES90 sedan achieves 435 miles of range, while the larger EX90 SUV manages 380 miles. Both models use an updated version of Volvo’s previous-generation 400V SPA2 platform.

Tesla continues expanding its charging infrastructure with next-generation technology. The company introduced V4 Supercharger stations across four U.S. locations last September, offering up to 500kW charging speeds.

However, even Tesla’s fastest chargers trail behind upcoming technology from Chinese manufacturer BYD, whose ‘Flash’ charging system promises up to 1,500kW power delivery.
