EV Used Car Sales Hit Record High According to BCA image

BCA sold nearly 1,000 electric vehicles in its first full trading week of 2025, setting a new company record. The sales included both passenger cars and commercial vans, marking a 50% increase from July 2024 figures.

The vehicle remarketing specialist projects selling more than 40,000 EVs this year. The volume of used electric vehicles entering the remarketing sector is doubling annually.

Growing dealer and consumer confidence in EVs is driving the surge in demand. BCA notes that many used electric vehicles now match or cost less than equivalent internal combustion engine models.

“EV volumes in our online auctions continue to grow significantly year-on-year and we continue to invest and refine the remarketing process to drive optimal value in this sector,” said Stuart Pearson, BCA’s Chief Operating Officer.

The company introduced a battery health check service for EVs in November 2024. The service grades battery condition and provides dealers with detailed information about the drive battery’s remaining capacity, while identifying potential issues like faulty modules.

This data helps dealers share accurate vehicle information with potential customers.

“A record broken in the first full trading week of the year certainly sets the tone for trading and provides credibility to the belief that customer perception on used EVs is changing for the good,” Pearson said.

BCA continues investing in infrastructure and support services as return volumes are expected to increase significantly in 2025. These investments aim to strengthen the wholesale market for used EVs.

The record sales follow a trend of growing EV transactions throughout 2024, reflecting broader changes in the used vehicle market.
