The UK’s Electric Car Grant is now live – and the list of qualifying EVs keeps growing as manufacturers secure approval for their models.
The grant offers £1,500 or £3,750 off new electric vehicles. Buyers don’t need to apply separately since the discount comes off automatically at purchase.
Car makers must apply for each model individually. That’s created delays between the grant’s launch and vehicles getting confirmed eligibility.
Complex calculations determine which discount band each car qualifies for. The system has meant a gradual rollout rather than immediate approval for all EVs.
Quoted prices below include the grant discount already applied.
Alpine
Alpine A290 – the sportier take on Renault’s electric supermini now qualifies for £1,500 off.
The performance-focused hatchback brings Alpine’s racing heritage to the EV market.
Citroen
French manufacturer Citroen became the first to secure grant approval across its complete electric lineup.
Every Citroen EV currently qualifies for the discount.
Cupra
Cupra offers two all-electric models but only one meets the £37,000 price threshold for grant eligibility.
- Cupra Born (excluding VZ trim) – from £34,190
Nissan
Nissan expects its upcoming Sunderland-built Leaf to qualify for the full £3,750 grant when it launches.
Current eligible models include all Micra variants and select Ariya configurations – both earning the £1,500 discount.
Peugeot
Three Peugeot models currently qualify. The manufacturer has one additional model awaiting approval and offers separate discounts on higher-priced EVs.
- Peugeot e-208 – from £28,650
- Peugeot e-2008 – £33,900
- Peugeot e-Rifter – £30,850
Renault
Renault’s complete EV range qualifies for the grant.
The approval covers the manufacturer’s award-winning electric vehicle lineup.
Vauxhall
Vauxhall’s pricing strategy means its entire EV range falls within grant eligibility.
All current electric models qualify for the £1,500 saving.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen launched its own grants for the ID.3 and ID.4 models. The ID.3 has since received official grant approval.
The pricier ID.4 doesn’t meet eligibility requirements – leaving VW with one qualifying model on the official list.
