Kia UK announced that two of its electric vehicles now qualify for the Government’s Electric Car Grant, reducing their purchase prices by £1,500. The EV4 hatchback and PV5 Passenger become the first Kia models to receive the discount.

The approval marks a significant milestone for Korean manufacturers in the UK’s electric vehicle incentive program.

EV4 Hatchback Pricing and Specs

The EV4 represents Kia’s first electric vehicle manufactured in Europe, rolling off the production line at the company’s Slovakia facility. With the band 2 grant applied, the starting price drops to £33,245 for the Air trim level.

That base model features a 58.3kWh battery pack delivering up to 273 miles of range.

Buyers wanting extended range can opt for the larger 81.4kWh battery variant, also available in Air trim. This version provides up to 388 miles of range for £35,495 after the government discount.

The EV4 fastback variants don’t qualify for the grant. These higher-spec GT-Line and GT-Line S models start at £40,880 – above the program’s price threshold.

PV5 Passenger Undercuts Competition

Kia’s van-based people carrier, the PV5 Passenger, also secured grant eligibility. The ID Buzz competitor now starts at £31,495 with the discount applied.

That’s almost £30,000 less than Volkswagen’s entry-level passenger Buzz.

The PV5 Passenger offers two trim levels and dual powertrain options. The Essential trim with 51.3kWh battery and 120bhp motor delivers 183 miles of range at the new reduced starting price.

Essential buyers can upgrade to the 71.2kWh battery and 160bhp motor combination for 356 miles of range. The Plus trim comes standard with the larger battery setup and more powerful motor – both configurations qualify for the £1,500 savings.

“We are delighted that Kia customers can now benefit from the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to making electric mobility accessible, practical, and affordable,” said Paul Philpott, president and CEO of Kia UK.

Philpott noted the timing coincides with Kia’s nationwide PBV Centre network becoming operational to deliver the award-winning PV5 to customers.

The grant approval puts Kia among the first Korean, Japanese, or Chinese manufacturers to qualify for the UK’s electric vehicle incentive program. The scheme aims to accelerate EV adoption by reducing upfront costs for buyers choosing lower-priced electric models.
