Ford’s boosting the range of its E-Transit Custom van for 2026 with a bigger battery pack – and they’re adding all-wheel drive for the first time.

The all-electric version of Ford’s best-selling panel van will get a 71kWh battery starting early next year, replacing the current 64kWh unit. That pushes the E-Transit Custom’s maximum range from 209 miles up to 232 miles.

The bigger battery also brings faster charging despite the increased capacity.

A 10-80% charge now takes just 29 minutes, down from 39 minutes with the previous setup. Current van owners will benefit too – over-the-air software updates are cutting charging times for the smaller battery to 25 minutes.

All-Wheel Drive Option Coming

The 2026 updates add an all-wheel-drive variant alongside the standard rear-wheel-drive version.

Ford says the front-mounted motor will “provide optimum torque to all four wheels, maximising traction and capability on steep inclines, and enabling enhanced vehicle dynamics, even in extremely slippery icy or muddy driving conditions.”

The E-Transit Custom AWD launches in spring 2026. It’ll be available across multiple versions including the rugged Trail series and the E-Tourneo Custom passenger van.

The Transit Custom – including the electric version – is the UK’s biggest-selling van with more than 46,000 units registered so far in 2025. That’s almost 20,000 units more than the larger Transit/E-Transit, which ranks second.

These updates are expected to make their way onto the Volkswagen E-Transporter as well, since it’s built on Ford’s platform at their factory in Turkey.
