Ford Performance revealed its electric NASCAR-based Mustang Mach-E prototype at its 2025 season launch event on January 30, adding to its recent announcement about returning to Le Mans in 2027.
The prototype bears little resemblance to the street Mach-E crossover, featuring a purpose-built carbon tub and three electric motors paired with a 78kWh battery. Ford integrated key components from its 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship Mustang, including the suspension, brakes, steering, and wheels.
While Ford hasn’t released official performance numbers, the Mach-E prototype is expected to generate 1,420bhp — matching the output of Ford’s electric SuperVan 4.2.
Romain Dumas will pilot the Mach-E prototype at Pikes Peak this year, aiming to break his 2023 class record set with the SuperVan. The former Le Mans winner claimed the King of The Mountain title in 2024 driving Ford’s 1,600bhp SuperTruck.
Dumas holds the overall Pikes Peak record of 7:57.148, set in 2018 with the Volkswagen ID.R.
The Mach-E prototype joins Ford’s growing lineup of high-performance EVs tested at Pikes Peak, including:
- SuperVan 4.2
- F-150 Lightning-based SuperTruck
The 13.5-mile Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is scheduled for June 22. Ford plans to release additional technical specifications for the Mach-E prototype as the event approaches.
