Ford launches ‘Power Promise’ to ease EV ownership concerns
Ford has launched a new ‘Power Promise’ promotion that aims to address key concerns around EV ownership.
The program includes a free home charger with installation for Ford electric car buyers, plus credit equivalent to 10,000 miles of home charging via Octopus Energy.
This offer covers Ford’s entire passenger vehicle range, including the Mustang Mach-E, Explorer and Capri EVs, and the upcoming Puma Gen-E – an all-electric version of its best-selling compact SUV. The E-Tourneo Custom and E-Tourneo Courier van-based MPVs are also eligible.
Customers will receive an Ohme home wallbox and standard installation worth £899, plus a £217 credit to their Octopus energy account. This equals 10,000 miles worth of charging at the 7p/kWh tariff offered on the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff supported by the charger.
Ford’s initiative follows a survey of 5,000 drivers that revealed significant hesitation about EV adoption:
- 25% felt uncertain about purchasing an EV
- 1 in 8 worried about home charger installation
- 33% thought EVs took too long to charge
- A similar proportion expressed concerns about battery longevity
To address battery concerns, Ford confirmed all its EVs come with an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, plus a free five-year service plan as part of the Power Promise.
“Switching into an electric vehicle for the first time can be a daunting prospect for some drivers, so Ford have decided to simplify and de-stress the entire ownership experience by launching a one-of-a-kind promise to new electric car buyers,” said Lisa Brankin, managing director of Ford UK.
“This commitment from Ford aims to entice new buyers into the exciting world of electric vehicles and stimulate additional demand for our freshest-ever lineup of electric passenger cars.”
Alex Schoch, Director of Flexibility at Octopus Energy, added: “With every electric car that takes the road, we’re getting closer to zero emissions transport – but to reach the finish line, we need to make green driving cheap and accessible. Working together with Ford, we’re able to create a compelling incentive for drivers to make the switch to electric, saving their pocket and the planet at the same time.”
While the Power Promise applies only to passenger vehicles, Ford Pro is offering van buyers a connected wallbox and installation for just £10 when purchasing any electric Transit model.
