Genesis Goes All-Electric in UK

Genesis announced it will discontinue all petrol and diesel vehicle sales in the UK this year, transitioning to an all-electric lineup.

The Korean luxury brand will continue selling existing stock of its G70 saloon, G70 Shooting Brake, GV70 and GV80 models until inventory is depleted. Some models have already sold out.

This move will remove the G70 and GV80 from Genesis’s UK portfolio entirely. The brand’s lineup will consist of three electric vehicles — the GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80.

Both the G80 and GV70 models are scheduled for updates that will introduce:

  • Refreshed designs
  • New technology features
  • Extended range from new battery systems

The GV60 recently received updates including exterior styling changes, dashboard redesign and increased range from a larger battery pack.

“Since arriving in the UK, Genesis has led the way in premium electrification,” said Jonny Miller, Genesis Motor UK brand director. “As a brand, we’ve established our presence in the markets with award-winning cars and customer service excellence. We’re committed to responding to customer and market feedback, and we’re confident our transition to an electric range, joined by future hybrid models, is the right direction.”

Miller added that Genesis plans to expand beyond its current UK, German and Swiss operations with “a rich and varied portfolio” including premium electrified and high-performance vehicles.

While Genesis will operate as an EV-only brand initially, the company’s statement suggests hybrid models may join the lineup. The announcement specifically mentions becoming “fully electrified” rather than “fully electric” by 2025.

Genesis also confirmed plans to expand its electric vehicle range, including the introduction of the performance-focused GV60 Magma model.
