Genesis released a camouflaged preview of its upcoming GV60 Magma – the high-performance version of its electric SUV – ahead of its European launch later this year.
The South Korean automaker’s first performance model takes clear inspiration from the track-inspired concept Genesis showcased in 2024. The production Magma features a wider, lower body kit and more aggressive front styling compared to the standard GV60.
A rear wing spans the full width of the vehicle.
The GV60 Magma completed an extensive global testing program that started in Sweden’s freezing conditions. Genesis engineers tested the vehicle’s cold-weather performance in Arjeplog’s sub-zero temperatures before moving to warmer climates.
Testing then shifted to California’s Proving Ground, where engineers examined how extreme heat affects power delivery, cooling systems, and thermal management.
Southern Hemisphere Testing
The program continued in New Zealand’s Southern Hemisphere Proving Ground. At 1,500 meters above sea level, Genesis evaluated chassis precision, traction control, and braking performance on icy, wind-swept terrain designed to simulate high-speed cornering scenarios.
Final testing concluded in South Korea this September with real-world driving scenarios.
Engineers drove the GV60 Magma approximately 40 miles from Genesis’s Namyang R&D Centre to Chuncheon, covering highways, mountain roads, and city streets. The testing program wrapped up at Inje Speedium Circuit with additional vehicle dynamics evaluations.
Expected Performance Specifications
The standard GV60 shares Hyundai’s E-GMP electric platform with the Ioniq 5 N. Industry observers expect the Magma to receive the same twin-motor setup producing 641 horsepower.
The 89kWh battery pack should carry over from the Ioniq 5 N, providing an estimated 278 miles of range per charge.
It’s unclear whether Genesis will include the simulated gear shifts and artificial engine sounds found in both the Ioniq 5 N and the larger Ioniq 6 N performance models.
Genesis hasn’t confirmed pricing for the GV60 Magma. The standard GV60 reaches approximately £77,000 when fully equipped, leading to speculation that the performance variant could approach £100,000.
The GV60 Magma represents Genesis’s entry into the performance EV segment, competing against established luxury performance SUVs in European markets.
