Genesis has updated its GV60 electric SUV with design tweaks and powertrain improvements as the Korean premium brand continues its push to establish itself alongside established German competitors. The changes mark the first significant refresh since Genesis transitioned to an EV-only lineup in the UK earlier this year.
Six years after its UK launch, Genesis remains relatively unknown despite its position as Hyundai Motor Group’s premium division. The brand operates as Korea’s answer to Lexus – offering alternatives to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.
The GV60 now sits alongside the GV70 and Electrified G80 as Genesis’s core models after the company dropped petrol and diesel engines completely.
Exterior and Interior Updates
The refreshed GV60 receives subtle but meaningful design changes. A new front bumper reshapes the grille area while “micro-lens array” headlights fill the quad lighting units with LED elements. The rear gets a new spoiler and reshaped bumper.
Inside, Genesis has replaced the twin 12.3-inch screens with a single 27-inch “integrated cockpit” display that houses both instruments and infotainment. The system uses a rotary controller alongside touchscreen controls – the same setup found in the updated GV70.
The cabin retains physical air conditioning controls and the distinctive drive selector that transforms into a crystal-like sphere when parked.
Build quality remains excellent throughout, with premium materials that rival established luxury brands. The dedicated EV platform delivers substantial interior space despite the GV60’s relatively compact exterior dimensions.
Storage includes a 432-liter boot and 53-liter front compartment for charging cables.
Battery and Performance Options
Genesis offers three motor configurations across different trim levels. Pure models feature a single rear-mounted 226bhp motor, while Sport variants add a front motor for 314bhp and all-wheel drive. The range-topping Performance model delivers 483bhp from both motors.
The entry-level Pure achieves 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds – respectable performance that handles daily driving demands without drama.
All versions now use an 84kWh battery pack that delivers between 311 and 348 miles of range, representing a 27-mile improvement over the previous generation. The single-motor Pure achieves the longest range at 348 miles.
DC fast charging reaches up to 258kW, enabling 10-80% charging in just 18 minutes. Regenerative braking offers four levels including single-pedal driving, controlled via steering wheel paddles.
The automatic regeneration mode lets the vehicle adjust braking recovery based on driving conditions.
Pricing and Equipment
The Pure model starts at £54,115 and includes 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats and steering wheel, plus a powered tailgate. The 27-inch display, wireless smartphone connectivity, and parking sensors come standard.
The Innovation Plus Pack costs £4,170 and adds a 360-degree camera, adaptive headlights, digital rear-view mirror, head-up display, and highway driving assistance.
A £3,000 Comfort package includes heated rear seats, window blinds, and memory-function seats with cooling.
Market Position
The updated GV60 competes directly with the Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX2, and Lexus RZ. It offers competitive range and performance figures alongside rapid charging capabilities that exceed many rivals.
The vehicle’s refinement and build quality match established premium brands, though Genesis still lacks the badge recognition of German competitors. The distinctive styling may not appeal to all buyers but helps the GV60 stand out in an increasingly crowded market.
Genesis continues expanding its UK presence as it works to carve out market share in the premium EV segment.
