Polestar has launched its own version of the popular geography guessing game GeoGuessr across its entire electric vehicle lineup. The Swedish automaker becomes the latest EV manufacturer to add gaming features designed to entertain drivers during charging sessions.

The game debuted on the Polestar 4’s central 15.4-inch touchscreen. It’s also available on the Polestar 3 and Polestar 2 infotainment systems.

Players can only access the game when their vehicle is stopped and charging.

Game Features and Unique Elements

GeoGuessr x Polestar follows the same basic format as the original GeoGuessr game. Players try to identify real-world locations using visual clues like street signs, geography, and public transportation.

The Polestar version includes two notable twists. First, it focuses specifically on finding Europe’s best driving roads rather than random global locations.

Second, the game incorporates the Polestar 4’s digital rear-view mirror technology. The mirror appears at the top of the screen and displays the game world in reverse – mimicking how drivers see the road behind them.

The Polestar-exclusive version also features its own branded avatar designed specifically for the partnership.

Growing Trend in EV Entertainment

Polestar joins a growing list of electric vehicle manufacturers adding games to their infotainment systems. The charging entertainment trend has picked up steam as EV adoption increases and manufacturers look for ways to improve the charging experience.

Tesla was among the first to offer in-car gaming. Volkswagen, Porsche, Renault, and Ford have all followed with their own entertainment options during charging stops.

The games help address one of the key differences between EVs and traditional gas vehicles – the longer time required to “refuel” compared to a quick gas station stop.

Michael Lohscheller, Polestar’s CEO, emphasized the connection between gaming and exploration in announcing the partnership.

“GeoGuessr and Polestar both celebrate exploration. With [the] Polestar 4’s rear-view mirror built directly into the game, we’ve created a playful link between our technology and one of the world’s most loved digital adventures. It’s the perfect entertainment offer when you are charging your Polestar.”

Daniel Antell, GeoGuessr’s CEO and co-founder, highlighted the natural fit between navigation and gaming.

“Every driver is using maps, GeoGuessr is turning navigation into a way to explore the world and have fun. That is why teaming up with Polestar feels very natural. It is also great to work with a fellow Swedish global brand.”

Competition and Prizes

Polestar and GeoGuessr are launching a Europe-wide competition to mark their partnership. The contest will run alongside the 2025 GeoGuessr World Championship Finals in Copenhagen.

The winner receives a trip to Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. The prize includes a full day at the company’s test track with a professional racing driver.

The companies haven’t announced when the competition will begin.
