Gridserve, one of the UK’s largest charging networks, has received official recognition from ChargeSafe for meeting safety, reliability and accessibility standards across its charging infrastructure.
The independent assessment body awarded Gridserve its accreditation status after evaluating both current facilities and the company’s ongoing development plans. ChargeSafe reviews public charging points on multiple criteria – from technical performance to security measures and user accessibility.
ChargeSafe launched following industry concerns that some charging operators weren’t prioritizing driver safety or comfort when selecting locations and designing their charging stations.
Gridserve’s Electric Forecourts and Super Hubs already rank among the top-performing sites in ChargeSave’s evaluation program. The company says this formal accreditation will help improve services during what it calls a “critical” period for EV adoption.
Network Growth and Operations
Since its founding in 2017, Gridserve has focused on delivering high-speed charging across the UK.
The company opened Britain’s first dedicated Electric Forecourt in 2020. A year later, it acquired the former Ecotricity Electric Highway – the network of chargers at motorway service stations that had operated for over a decade.
Gridserve has since upgraded and expanded that infrastructure significantly. The network now includes more than 1,400 charging bays across 190 locations throughout the UK, processing over 250,000 charging sessions monthly.
“The ChargeSafe Accredited Partner status demonstrates our continued focus on delivering a safe, accessible and seamless charging experience with the customer at the heart,” said Rebecca Trebble, chief product officer at Gridserve.
Trebble emphasized the company’s commitment to customer feedback and partnership collaboration. “We always strive to improve our offering through listening to customer feedback and working with partners to enhance our best practice.”
Industry Standards and User Experience
The ChargeSafe accreditation goes beyond basic compliance requirements.
Kate Tyrrell, CEO of ChargeSafe, explained that accredited status distinguishes operators focused on user experience during the ongoing EV transition.
“Being a ChargeSafe Accredited Partner isn’t just about meeting standards – it sets Gridserve apart as a leader in user experience as we navigate the EV revolution,” Tyrrell said.
She noted that understanding ChargeSafe standards helps operators build networks that serve all users effectively. “By understanding how to deliver electric vehicle charging sites to the ChargeSafe standard, Gridserve is supported to build a network that meets the needs of all users, making the transition to electric equitable for all.”
The accreditation covers technical standards, security protocols, and accessibility features that affect the overall charging experience for EV drivers.
