GWM has filed documentation with China’s Ministry for Industry and Technology for a crossover version of its Ora 03 electric hatchback, according to regulatory documents.
The crossover – marketed as the Ora Cat in China – features the same retro design language as its hatchback sibling. Round headlights and soft, curved bodywork give it a similar aesthetic to the Fiat 600e.
The Cat gets crossover-specific upgrades including higher ground clearance, roof rails, and a distinctive clamshell tailgate. It keeps the Ora 03’s signature tail lights integrated into the rear windows.
Bigger Dimensions
At 4.5 metres long, 1.8 metres wide, and 1.6 metres tall, the Cat stretches 300mm longer than the standard Ora 03. The hatchback measures 4.2 metres in length but shares the same width and height.
GWM hasn’t released full technical specifications yet. However, the filing indicates a 201bhp electric motor paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery from Honeycomb Energy, GWM’s battery subsidiary.
The braking and energy management systems come from Chinese supplier Feigetech.
Advanced Driver Assistance
Chinese market versions will include roof-mounted lidar sensors, multiple cameras, and side-mounted radar units for driver assistance features.
The Cat joins GWM’s domestic lineup alongside the Good Cat, Lightning Cat, and Ballet Cat models.
GWM plans to rebrand the Ora Cat for UK sales when it arrives in early 2026. The company typically drops the “Cat” naming convention for European markets – the domestic Good Cat became the Ora 03 for UK buyers.
It’ll compete against the Ford Puma Gen-E, Renault 4, Volvo EX30, and Stellantis models including the Vauxhall Mokka Electric, Jeep Avenger, and Peugeot e-2008.
