Hyundai has announced a £3,750 price reduction on its award-winning Inster EV through its new Electric Grant program, according to company officials.
The South Korean manufacturer’s Electric Grant responds to the UK Government’s electric car grant of up to £3,750. The government hasn’t yet announced which vehicles will qualify – manufacturers must provide evidence showing how environmentally friendly their battery and manufacturing processes are.
This requirement has raised concerns among South Korean and Chinese carmakers who worry they won’t meet the criteria.
Several manufacturers have launched their own grant programs to get ahead of potential qualification issues. Leapmotor and GWM announced grants between £1,500 and £3,750 on their electric models.
Price Reductions Across Range
Hyundai’s £3,750 discount brings the 2025 World EV of the Year Inster’s starting price down to £19,755.
The company applied smaller £1,500 Electric Grant discounts to its other EVs:
- Kona Electric now starts at £33,500
- Ioniq 5 costs £38,410
- Ioniq 6 ‘streamliner’ priced at £45,550
- Ioniq 5 N hyperhatch reduced from £65,010 to £63,510
The all-new Ioniq 9 flagship SUV can be purchased from £63,495 with the £1,500 discount applied.
Ashley Andrews, Hyundai and Genesis UK president, explained the reasoning behind the grant program.
“As the electric vehicle landscape continues to evolve, it’s important that customers have complete clarity, choice and compelling value when making the switch to electric,”
Andrews said.
He emphasized Hyundai’s diverse EV portfolio covers everything from the compact Inster to the flagship Ioniq 9 seven-seat SUV.
“By providing immediate financial support through our grant programme, we’re ensuring that more customers can experience the significant long-term savings that come with electric driving.”
Additional Summer Incentives
Buyers of the Inster and Kona Electric can receive an extra £500 off through Hyundai’s Electrifying Summer event. Some dealerships also offer 0% finance for three years depending on specific offers.
The Electrifying Summer deal ends August 31.
Hyundai’s move reflects broader uncertainty in the EV market as manufacturers wait to see which vehicles will qualify for the government’s environmental criteria. The company’s proactive approach ensures customers can access immediate savings regardless of final qualification decisions.
