InstaVolt has installed its charging devices at 250 McDonald’s sites, marking a significant milestone in the five-year partnership between the ultra-rapid charging provider and the fast food chain.

More than 500 InstaVolt chargers now operate across these locations throughout the UK and Ireland, allowing EV drivers to recharge their vehicles while grabbing a meal.

The collaboration began with the first charger installation at a McDonald’s restaurant in Port Talbot in December 2020. Since then, these chargers have powered an estimated 120 million electric miles – equivalent to circling the Earth nearly 5,000 times.

“Working with McDonald’s has been a cornerstone of our strategy to deliver reliable and convenient nationwide EV infrastructure,” said Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt. “Their well-located restaurants give us the perfect platform to reach communities across the UK and Ireland. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together so far and look forward to growing our partnership further.”

The strategic placement at McDonald’s restaurants creates convenient charging opportunities for EV owners, with most vehicles reaching an 80% charge in approximately 20 minutes – just enough time for a meal or coffee break.

Mike Spencer, vice president of development at McDonald’s UK & Ireland, emphasized the customer experience benefits of the partnership.

“McDonald’s is committed to delivering a great customer experience and our ongoing partnership with InstaVolt means we can do just that,” Spencer said. “Providing accessible charging points enables customers with electric vehicles to visit one of our restaurants for a coffee or a meal and get an average of an 80% charge in 20 minutes. This is a brilliant milestone to have reached, and as we look to open 200 new restaurants over the next four years, continuing to make charging points available, where possible, will remain a priority.”

InstaVolt has achieved several milestones recently. The company installed its 2,000th charger and opened its first “super-hub” near Winchester in March, featuring 44 160kW charging devices.
