Jaguar plans to announce the official name for its upcoming electric GT on May 12, according to multiple industry reports. The British automaker has kept the production car’s final name under wraps since revealing the Type 00 concept in December 2024.
The production version – currently known by its internal codename X900 – will get its full reveal in September this year.
Jaguar hasn’t indicated whether it’ll choose an entirely new name or revive a classic nameplate. The brand previously honored its heritage when the F-Type followed the legendary E-Type.
The car represents a major shift for Jaguar through its new “Vibrant Modernism” design language. This marks a departure from the traditional wood and leather aesthetic the brand built its reputation on.
Technical Specifications
The 5.2-meter four-door GT sits on Jaguar’s brand-new electric platform called Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). This platform will underpin all three EVs in the company’s electric lineup.
Power comes from three electric motors – one mounted up front and two at the rear. The system produces over 1,000 horsepower and 959 pound-feet of torque.
That’s more power than a Bugatti Veyron delivers.
The GT uses an 850V electrical system paired with a 120kWh battery pack. Jaguar promises 400 miles of range on a full charge.
Ultra-fast 350kW charging capability means drivers can add 200 miles of range in under 15 minutes at compatible charging stations.
Handling the Weight
Despite weighing 2,700kg, the GT gets sophisticated suspension technology to manage its mass. Twin-chamber air suspension works alongside adaptive dampers to keep the car composed.
Wheel options include 21-inch and 23-inch sizes.
Rear-wheel steering comes standard to help improve the turning circle despite the car’s substantial dimensions.
Market Positioning
Pricing is expected between £120,000 and £140,000 when sales begin. This positions the GT as Jaguar chases a younger, affluent customer base as part of its controversial shift to electric-only vehicles.
The move represents a significant gamble for the historic British brand.
This isn’t Jaguar’s first electric vehicle. The company produced the I-Pace SUV from 2018 through 2024. An all-electric version of the XJ sedan was nearly complete before Jaguar cancelled it at the last minute.
The May 12 name announcement will provide another piece of the puzzle as Jaguar prepares for its electric future.
