KGM Motors will debut its new Musso EV at this weekend’s SupBikeRun triathlon in Cumbria. The all-electric pickup will appear at the adventure event with early test drives available for attendees.
The Korean automaker calls the Musso EV an “evolving” model that’s still being refined based on driver feedback.
Kevin Griffin, managing director at KGM Motors UK, said the timing makes sense.
“SupBikeRun is all about adventure and new experiences, which makes it a fitting environment for participants to test drive the Musso EV for the very first time,” Griffin said. “At this stage, it’s about seeing what’s possible for an electric pickup and engaging with people who will ultimately shape its future.”
The company first teased the Musso EV in 2024. Unlike the diesel-powered Musso pickup, the electric version uses the same platform as the Torres EVX SUV.
Technical Specifications
While final specs aren’t confirmed, the test vehicle features several key capabilities:
- All-wheel-drive system
- Up to 290 miles of driving range
- Vehicle-to-load technology for powering tools and equipment
The vehicle-to-load feature lets drivers use the truck’s battery to power external equipment – a useful function for work sites or camping.
Electric pickups have struggled in European markets. The US has several larger models like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, but Europe’s one-tonne truck segment has proven challenging.
Models like the Maxus T90EV have failed to deliver on multiple fronts.
The difficulty comes from matching diesel trucks’ load capacity, towing ability, and off-road performance with electric powertrains. Battery weight and energy density remain limiting factors.
Market Positioning
Given these challenges, the Musso EV will likely target lifestyle customers rather than commercial buyers seeking a workhorse vehicle. This approach differs from the current diesel Musso’s positioning.
KGM is using these early drives to gather real-world feedback before the full UK launch. The company hasn’t announced pricing or availability dates.
Interested drivers can register for test drives through the KGM website.
The SupBikeRun event provides an ideal testing ground – participants likely represent the adventure-focused demographic KGM wants to reach with the electric pickup.
